Mint - Mentha X Piperita Chocolate

Chocolate Mint is an upright perennial which is most commonly grown as a culinary herb. Spreading by rhizomes to form an attractive ground cover, Chocolate Mint features small, glossy dark green leaves tinged with burgundy. Spikes of small lavender flowers appear in summer, blooming from the bottom up, and attract a number of good pollinators to the garden. Bees, butterflies, and other pollinators are attracted to the mint when it flowers.

A very nice container selection or nice edger for beds and borders, near paths, decks or porches where fragrance can be appreciated. Cut back periodically to maintain neat appearance.

Since it has just a hint of cocoa scent, Chocolate Mint is especially well-suited to sweets. Leaves have a chocolate-mint fragrance and taste and may be used in desserts, hot chocolate, or as a garnish. Mint is best when used fresh or stored in air-tight containers. To harvest, gather bunches and hang on drying racks or spread on screens until completely dry.
